David at Mono Pass
8/19 SAT
2200 feet climbing in about six miles (very steep at first, moderate and exposed later) past two overused lakes to Mono Pass (12,000, the highest of the trip) . Given that it's the weekend again, this is day-tripper city. The trail is a human highway. After gearing down and easing across the moonscape of this most otherworldy pass, it's a coast down the long switchbacks to Mosquito Flat trailhead (10230). We're belly to the bar, at Tom's Place, exquisitely tired and happy, by 5 pm.
